The Area Championships will be held in Shakopee on July 17th and 18th. 41 teams with over 400 participants are expected. Match play will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday July 17.
Tournament format:
There will be two different formats –
- 14U Int and 18U Int are separated into 4 pools of 4 teams in round-robin format. Each team will play 3 matches on Thursday and the pool winners will playoff on Friday. All pool winners advance to Sectionals. 8 game Pro sets with NO add.
- 18U Advanced will be playing a 9 team round robin. Each team will be playing 4 matches each day. Due to the number of matches, we will be using a 6 game Pro set with NO add.
Match format:
- Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, Girls Singles, Boys Singles, and Mixed Doubles
- Boys & Girls Singles goes on first, followed by doubles and then Mixed Doubles (if a player is doubling up in a particular match, make sure that one of their matches goes on first)
- An individual may play in either one singles or one doubles match within each team match unless the team has only the team minimum of six players (3 boys and 3 girls), in which case an individual may play in a singles or same gender doubles match and the mixed doubles match. In no event may one player play in three individual matches against the same opponent.
- If your team does not have the appropriate number of players for each gender, then that position must be defaulted. This will be recorded as a 6-0 loss for the team at fault. Every player present on your roster must participate in a match during the first round for your team to advance to the Championship round.
- Line-ups may be changed after each round, but NOT after you exchange with the other coach.
- Coaching is allowed on all changeovers (not allowed during tie-breakers).
- Coaches must be identified at the start of the tournament. Please appoint an assistant coach, if you are responsible for two teams. This may be a team captain or a parent.
We will keep matches going continuously. As soon as there is an open court, we will put the next match on, so please stick around. Your next match may be called early.
Scoring Format:
Warm-up should be limited to 5 minutes before each match. Players can warm up prior to the start of the daily matches on the courts that they are scheduled to play their first match on.
All matches will be -
- 14U Int and 18U Int - 8 game Pro sets with NO add.
- 18U Advanced - 6 game Pro set with NO add.
Team score will be based on total number of games won.
In the Mixed Doubles match at deuce, the boy must serve to the boy and the girl must serve to the girl. In all other matches, it is the receiver’s choice of side.
Please turn in your signed scorecard to the tournament desk immediately after each round is completed (total # of games won & games lost).
Please identify a girls and boys sportsmanship nominee on the respective scorecard after each match
