Shakopee Tennis Association

STA Team Tennis is a USTA sanctioned competitive program for players to develop match play experience. Players are divided by skill level and age and placed on co-ed teams of 6-10 players. USTA Jr. Team Tennis is the largest junior recreational tennis league in the country.
As the players grow into their skills, the format is adapted to best meet their needs whether playing traditional tennis or using the 10ANDUNDER format. JTT is a combination of practice and match play with an emphasis on skill development, fun, teamwork and friendly competition. The local season consists of competing against other teams of similar age and ability level.

Teams are made up of 1/2 boys and 1/2 girls and will compete against teams from the surrounding area. The junior team tennis season culminates with the Area Championships on July 16 & 17 in Shakopee. Winners will advance to the Sectional Championships at the U of M Baseline Tennis Center July24-27. Sectional winners advance to Nationals in South Carolina in late October.

All team players will receive 1/2 off entry into the Shakopee Summer Sizzler Championship Level 7 individual tournament June 15-17. and 1/2 off entry into the Derby Days Dazzler Championship Level 6 tournament August 3-5
Practice starts on May 21st and match play begins the week of June 11.

Teams are divided by age and ability.
Team divisions are:

• 10 and under
• 12 and under
• 14 and under
• 18 and under

2012 Season
Practice starts May 21st FOR 12U, 14U & 18U at Stans Park/ Jr. High Courts (some practices may be held at the Shakopee Sr. High)

***IMPORTANT***
The culmination of 6-8 weeks of very hard work by players is the USTA Area Championships July 16 & 17. This is a MUST ATTEND event for players. It is a 2 day tournament that requires attendance from 8 am to 7 pm both days.
 

Practice for all 12U, 14U and 18U players before school year ends will be held May 21-24, May 29-June 1, and June 4-7.

The summer JTT season is very compressed once match play starts on June 11th. It is imperative that players make every effort to attend all pre-season practices to be evaluated and placed properly.

12U and 14U Int practice 5 pm to 6:15 pm
18U & 14U Adv practice 6:15 to 7:30 pm

10U practice starts June 11th

Starting June 11th Practice is held Mon-Thurs at Stans Park
12U 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
14U Int 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
18U & 14U Adv 1- 2:30 p.m.
10U 11-12:15 or 5-6:15 pm

Some teams may practice at the Shakopee Sr. High due to court availability.

Optional 14U & 18U evening match play Tuesday - Wednesday at 7pm starting June 12

• 14U matches are played on Tuesdays at 1 pm
• 12U matches are played on Wednesdays at 1 pm
• 10U matches are played on Thursdays at 3:30 pm
• 18U matches are played on Thursdays at 1 pm

All home matches will be played at the Shakopee High School

Cost $250

Cost includes:
Professional instruction and skill development.
All afternoon practices will be conducted by Jack Roach, Director of Tennis.
