Junior Tennis Programs

The Shakopee Tennis Association Junior Tennis program encompasses youth lessons for players 4-17, a USTA Junior Team Tennis competitive program, a High School Varsity Development program, and a QuickStart competitive development program for players aged 4-10.  The Shakopee Tennis Association is also a USTA National Junior Tennis League chapter as well as a Tennis Welcome Center.

Youth Lessons
The youth lesson program is held Monday through Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. with Thursday as a rain make-up day. The Shakopee Tennis Association lesson program is designed for beginning to lower intermediate players. Lessons are structured in a drill and match format with an emphasis on the basics. Classes are divided by age and skill level with a student:instructor ratio of 8:1 or less. More>>

USTA Junior Team Tennis
USTA Junior Team Tennis is a competitive league for intermediate to advanced players with some match play experience for ages 9-18. USTA JTT has seen explosive growth over the past few years on a national scale. Shakopee currently has one of the largest Team Tennis programs in the USTA Northern Section. Players are evaluated based on age and ability and placed on co-ed teams made up of  8-10 boys and girls. More>>

10ANDUNDERTENNIS
10ANDUNDERTENNIS (formerly QuickStart Tennis) was introduced in 2007 by the USTA and is become a huge success in a very short time.

10ANDUNDERTENNIS is designed to get younger players playing faster and understanding the game of tennis in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. 10ANDUNDERTENNIS uses smaller racquets, lower comprssion balls and a smaller court. The results are amazing with younger kids developing their skills faster and having a lot of fun. More>>

NJTL Chapter (USTA National Junior Tennis League)
The NJTL was founded by the late Arthur Ashe. It is a devlopment program to help young players succeed at life as well as tennis. The Shakopee Tennis Association firmly believes the tennis should be a sport that players can enjoy their whole life and promotes the sport as such. The NJTL incorporates life skills, sportsmanship and good decision making as a core component or its program. The STA incorporates NJTL principles in all aspects of all of our youth programs  More>>

Private Lessons
Private lessons are one-on-one instruction with a USPTA Certified Coach and semi-private lessons are 2, 3 or 4 students per instructor. All private lessons will be scheduled at Jr. High/ Stans Park Tennis Courts or another location if available. Volunteers Needed... and appreciated!

 

 

 

The strength of any organization lies in the commitment and energy of its volunteers. If you have an interest to help out please email the association at the link below.

We are looking for parent volunteers to be team coordinators/drivers for team tennis and also need volunteers for the Summer Sizzler June 17-19, the USTA Team Tennis Area Champonships July 18-19 and the Derby Days Dazzler August 5-7. These are big tournaments encompassing all the courts at the High School, Stans and Lions Parks. We are looking for set up, check-in, score table, conStenson stand, drivers and tear down.
