Shakopee Tennis Association

(July 17) Two Shakopee USTA Jr. Tennis Teams qualified for the USTA Northern Sectional Tournament today by placing first in their respective division at the Area Team Tennis Championships being held in Shakopee.

The Shakopee Tennis Association is hosting the USTA Team Tennis Area Championships July 17 and 18. There are 41 teams from the Northern Section registered.  Attendance topped 400+ players and coaches along with another 300+ spectators. There were 16 14U Intermediate teams competing including the Shakopee Thunderbolts, Bearcats, and Mustangs. 16 18U Intermediate teams competed including The Shakopee Spitfire, Avengers and Corsairs. The Shakopee Avengers lost in a 1 game differential loss to Mankato.There are 9 18U Advanced teams competing also.

The Team Tennis Area Championship is a round robin total games won tournament. The top four finishers in each division will continue on the the Northern Sectionals at the U of M Baseline Tennis Center July 28-29

. Sectional winners advance to USTA Team Nationals in Mobile, AL in late October. Matches will be held at the High School, Jr. High/Stans Park and Lions Park courts.

Shakopee's 12U Teams will be competing in their Sectional tournament August 8th in St. Paul.
